Draft logo design

Hello all, and welcome to my logo draft post. For this project I decided to create a hypothetical logo for a subscription service that provides pet foods and supplies. The idea is that a customer may have an app or website account set up where they are billed once a month or so to receive necessary items such as food, as well as unique extras each time such as treats or toys. The logo is supposed to be a kitten whose tail is also the letter ‘F’ beginning the brand name. In the final version of this logo there will be a full face on the kitten, as well as potentially some added legs/paws (I have not decided if I will be adding legs or not as to not distract from the important aspect of the logo which is the brand name). I also plan to tweak the angles of the tail significantly in order to make its appearance more smooth and natural looking. On top of these changes, I plan to make subtle alterations to the image as a whole in order to make it look more professional in its entirety.

The main research that I have done for this project consists of practicing with the tutorials numerous times, as well as searching the internet for solutions to tricky tasks such as grouping objects together to be able to move them as one. The elements used in this project were greatly important being that illustrator uses lines and shapes rather than images (for the most part). Because of this, the attention to each anchor point and line segment was crucial.

In order to create the elements in this logo draft, I heavily used the elliptical tool and the polygon tool. In creating most shapes for the kitten, I would either use the elliptical and then the direct selection tool to adjust its anchor points; or the polygon tool (followed by indicating how many sides I wish for the polygon to have).

One of the only (major) issues that I have encountered was finding a way to fold the ears on the kitten. In order to overcome this obstacle, I simply searched adobe forums for a similar question. In doing so, I was led to a solution as well as many other frequently asked questions regarding similar topics. This is not abnormal and is my recommendation to those who are stuck when using adobe software-before you despair, try a simple internet search.

  1. This logo is super creative and you worked hard on it. I really love how you used the cat’s tail to add to your title. It not only adds to the artistic value of the piece but it also adds texture to the letter. Something cool you could add to the tail and the body is some texture to make it look like fur. One thing I think you might do differently is shifting the body of the cat to make it more in line with the head. I would also consider either giving the cat a face or getting rid of the darker circle in the head because it looks a little unfinished. I love what you did with the whiskers, they look very realistic and have a very cool wispy look. Making sure the body has a black outline to match the head could also add to your project. Overall, it is super cute and you did a great job with it!

  2. I really like where you are at with this initial draft of your logo. I like the idea and general concept behind what you want to convey with the general plan for the logo. I do think that the background color is a little overwhelming however and that the logo may be better on a white background. However, if you are wanting to have color in the background then maybe consider something not as in your face and distracting as the bright turquoise is. I also think it may be beneficial to add a gradient to the cat design to try and make it stand out a little more. Adding a gradient can add more dimension to the design and make it stand out on the page more as well as making it not appear flat on the page. I do really enjoy the concept of the cat’s tail forming the F in Fluff-Stuff I think it’s a really unique way to bring the name if the web page into the actual design of your logo. That being said, I think that if you could find a way to make the tail seem shorter that could add to making the logo feel a bit more professional.

  3. Hello Steven,

My first impression of your design is that it is really colorful and draws a lot of attention. I like how your cat doesn’t have a face because it draws attention on the wording on your logo. I also like how everything isn’t completely symmetrical on the cat because it makes it a little more unique. One thing I think you could improve on the design is the different browns. I think you could make it more uniform and make it, so they all come together better. I also think that you could fade the blue a little and more it a little less vibrant, maybe even add the gradient to the blue so it doesn’t take away from most important focus, the inner logo.

    Thanks,

  4. After reading the feedback on this logo draft, as well as looking at this design with a fresh perspective, there are a few things that I plan to change between this post and the final version of it. I will be changing the background color to start with. I have not decided whether or not I will be using a blank white background, but I do agree with one comment that the current color is overwhelming. I will also be adjusting the image of the cat in the following ways: I will add some kind of “texture” so that the fur looks a bit more like fur, I will add an outline to the body of the cat to match the head, I will add a face that completes the image without being too distracting, and I will adjust the tail to appear more consistent and symmetrical. I also plan to add (at least) bottom-legs for the cat to be sitting on.
